Anthropic Officially Relaunches Claude Fable 5, Debuting Free 7-Day Promotional Access for Premium Tiers

Promotional Access Boundaries and Plan Eligibility

- Eligible Tiers: Claude Pro, Claude Max, Claude Team, and premium seats on seat-based Enterprise plans (where enabled by administrators).
- Exclusions: Free tier accounts, standard seats on legacy Enterprise plans, usage-based Enterprise accounts, and all API endpoints. Accessing Claude Fable 5 via the raw developer API will continue to be billed separately at standard consumption rates.
The 50% Usage Threshold Rule
During the 7-day window, eligible subscribers can allocate up to 50% of their plan's regular weekly usage limits to Claude Fable 5. Because Fable 5 is a compute-heavy frontier architecture, it draws down on a plan's regular weekly usage cap significantly faster than legacy models like Claude Opus or Claude Sonnet.
Once a user hits the 50% Fable limit, or exhausts their overall plan limits via other models, the platform introduces two distinct operational options:
- Usage Credits: Users can keep working with Fable 5 by pulling from their pre-configured usage credits, which are billed separately from the base subscription. If usage credits are active, the system will automatically transition to metered billing the moment the promotional ceiling is breached.
- Model Downgrade: Users can manually toggle the model picker back to standard models (such as Claude Opus 4.8) to continue working within whatever remains of their standard plan allowance.
Widespread Deployment Across the Claude Product Suite
Anthropic has synchronized the relaunch across its entire software ecosystem. Users can select "Fable 5" via standard web and desktop dropdown menus.
System administrators and developers should note specific version prerequisites across specialized engineering hubs:
- Claude Code: Utilizing Fable 5 requires updated terminal installations running version 2.1.170 or later. Organizational admins retain the power to explicitly restrict Fable 5 access within Claude Code via managed enterprise policies.
- Claude Cowork: Requires users to be running the latest localized version of the standalone Claude Desktop application.
- Ambient & Collaborative Endpoints: Fable 5 is fully integrated into Claude Design, Claude for Microsoft 365, Claude for Teams, and the newly launched Claude Tag ambient workplace teammate.
Post-Promotion Paradigm: Mandatory Usage Credits
When the clock strikes midnight on July 7, 2026, Claude Fable 5 will be permanently decoupled from standard subscription allowances.
Moving forward, the model will operate strictly as a premium utility tier.
